Best AI Consulting Firms for Client Reporting for Private Equity (2026)
Book a discovery call
For private equity client reporting, start with Brownloop for LP-ready reporting from fragmented portfolio data, SG Analytics for fund-return analysis, and KPMG for investor-document production in Workiva. Add Blue Margin when the data foundation needs work, or Fixed Labs when the immediate job is preparing company reporting that feeds the fund.
Here, client reporting means reports for limited partners and investors. It does not mean picking a chatbot to write a quarterly letter. The hard part is getting the right company, investment and fund figures into a report that finance can reconcile, approve and correct later.
Fixed Labs is our firm and appears in this comparison. Its published private equity offer covers company board and lender package preparation, not a demonstrated fund-accounting or LP-reporting replacement. That distinction matters when you shortlist a provider.
This guide is for a fund CFO, head of investor relations or operating partner hiring implementation help. We compare five firms on the reporting work their own sources describe, checked November 5, 2026. For a wider portfolio AI program, use our general private equity consulting-firm comparison. For one reporting workflow inside a portfolio company, see our private equity implementation work.
Which reporting problem does each firm solve?
Choose the layer that is failing before asking for an AI proposal. Extracting a number, calculating a return and issuing a reviewed investor document are different jobs. A provider can do one well without delivering the other two.
| Firm | Reporting work supported by its published evidence | Where AI is established | Best reason to call | Question still to settle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brownloop | Entity mapping, portfolio data integration, Power BI and LP-ready exports | Its PE case describes AI-driven reporting tools | Company and investment data do not line up across systems | Who reconciles, approves and reissues the final LP report? |
| SG Analytics | Portfolio/fund data extraction, return calculations and Power BI dashboards | AI extraction and analysis are explicit in its case | The fund needs better return analysis from scattered reports | What turns the analysis into an approved investor deliverable? |
| KPMG | Workiva/Wdata implementation, investor reports and review workflows | AI use is not established in this particular reporting case | The bottleneck is controlled report production across funds | Which services are available given audit independence and the agreed scope? |
| Blue Margin | iLEVEL integration, consolidated financials, variance reporting and Power BI | AI use is not established in this particular case | Portfolio metrics need consistent definitions and a usable reporting base | Who owns the step from dashboard to released LP package? |
| Fixed Labs | Company board/lender package preparation and variance flags, with named review | An advertised AI workflow, not a published PE outcome case | One recurring company reporting task needs building and ongoing operation | Is the required work company reporting, or fund accounting outside the published scope? |
These are different reasons to hire, not equivalent demonstrations of a complete LP-reporting system. A useful data implementation may remove more work than a narrative generator. Ask for the finished output you need, not the largest number of AI features.
Brownloop: portfolio data through to LP-ready exports
Brownloop is the closest match in this selection when fragmented operating data is blocking LP reporting. Its published PE case describes inconsistent entity identifiers, mismatched company-versus-investment detail and source-system gaps around continuation funds.
The work included master tables with unique identifiers, data integration using Fivetran and Snowflake, AI-driven reporting tools and Power BI. It also describes historical staging layers for rollback and optimized LP-ready exports. That is more specific evidence than a general promise to summarize quarterly updates.
Its current AI-assisted workflow service also covers investor relations and reporting. The case does not name the AI models, an extraction-accuracy measure or a final-report approval service. Do not treat its historical source-system problems as limitations of those products today.
Ask Brownloop to follow one figure from a portfolio submission into an LP export, then show what happens when that source figure changes after release. Its staging and rollback work is relevant; the contractual responsibility for an investor correction still needs to be agreed.
SG Analytics: fund performance and return calculations
SG Analytics is worth a call when the reporting problem sits in fund analysis rather than page production. Its fund-performance case describes a US private equity client using AI-powered extraction to combine investment transactions, cash flows, capital calls, distributions and net asset values from fund reports.
The case covers IRR, multiple on invested capital, DPI and RVPI, as well as LP and GP returns incorporating fees and carried interest. The output includes interactive Power BI dashboards for company and fund review.
That supports a serious conversation about extracting and analyzing fund data. It does not establish autonomous investor-report issuance, a reconciled capital-account statement service or an agreed approval process. Finance must still agree the calculation basis and who signs off.
Give SG Analytics a completed reporting period with known answers. Ask it to reproduce your approved calculations, explain differences and retain the source behind each result. A polished dashboard cannot resolve a disagreement about which cash flow belongs to which investment.
KPMG: investor documents and approval workflows
KPMG's Workiva client story is useful when the calculation already exists but turning it into controlled investor reports consumes the team. It describes source-system API mapping, Workiva and Wdata implementation, report templates, testing, training and review-and-approval processes.
The engagement started with five of a firm's 25 funds, then extended to the other 20. This is evidence of a reporting-platform implementation. The case does not establish that AI generated its commentary or controlled the release, so we would not buy it on that assumption.
KPMG may suit a fund that needs the document-production and collaboration layer redesigned across several funds. Ask for the exact licensing assumptions, integration responsibilities, template changes and support after launch. Also ask what happens when an approved figure changes and multiple documents must be corrected together.
The source notes that some services may not be permissible for KPMG audit clients and related entities. Have KPMG confirm availability for your circumstances before investing time in a detailed scope.
Blue Margin: fix the reporting foundation first
Blue Margin's portfolio-reporting case describes a PE firm with more than 25 portfolio companies. It connected the iLEVEL API to a centralized data platform and built a Power BI reporting suite with consolidated income statements, balance sheets, cash flows, variance comparisons and company/fund/time filters.
That is a different buying decision from hiring someone to draft an investor letter. If analysts spend the week restructuring spreadsheets and reconciling inconsistent metrics, start with the data foundation. The source describes this work, but does not establish generative AI in that particular engagement.
Blue Margin is a credible alternative when reporting automation and consistent definitions may solve the immediate problem without another AI layer. Ask how the delivered dashboards feed investor documents, which source definitions stay with the fund and who maintains the connections. The published case is not proof that it will distribute a reviewed LP package for you.
Fixed Labs: one company reporting workflow, built and run
Fixed Labs builds and operates workflows for established businesses doing $5M+ in revenue. Our private equity page describes pulling figures from company systems into the fund's standard board and lender package, then flagging variances for comment. The company CFO signs off and the operating partner reviews before distribution.
That makes us a candidate when the first problem is a recurring preparation job inside one portfolio company. We build in existing systems and keep the workflow running after launch. The published offer uses a fixed build fee and a monthly operating fee, quoted after discovery.
Do not confuse that offer with a completed fund-level LP-reporting case. The sources checked for this guide do not establish Fixed Labs fund-return calculations, investor capital accounts or LP-portal implementation. If those are the requirement, Brownloop, SG Analytics and the other reporting specialists deserve a closer look.
Our implementation service is the next step when the required output is clear but nobody has time to build and maintain the workflow. Bring the current report and the systems behind it to a discovery call. We will distinguish the part we would take on from work that belongs with your fund administrator or reporting-platform specialist.
Ask every bidder to correct an already released report
Ask for more than a clean first run: include a correction to an already released report. Take a sample quarter, create a corrected portfolio-company submission and ask each bidder to show the revised report without silently replacing the version that was approved before.
This is a proposed demonstration to request, not a test these firms have passed. Use approved sample data and agree the expected answers with your finance team before the exercise.
| Give every bidder the same material | Ask them to show |
|---|---|
| One reporting period, company and investment identifiers, and the intended investor audience | Which figure belongs at company, investment and fund level; no silent substitution between them |
| Source submissions and an approved fund calculation workbook | A source reference and transformation for each reported figure; differences against the approved workbook explained |
| One missing value and one duplicate submission | An exception held for review rather than filled in or counted twice |
| Your existing investor template and release rules | A draft, a named reviewer and a record of the approved version |
| A corrected submission received after that approval | Which figures and narrative passages change, which earlier version is retained and who authorizes reissue |
| A different investor with different access | How the proposal keeps that investor from receiving another investor's information |
Treat extraction, calculations, commentary and release as separately reviewable work. A finance reviewer should be able to reject a bad source or disputed return without throwing away everything else in the draft.
Keep investment judgment, valuations and investor communication approval with the fund's responsible people. Agree how your fund administrator participates. The consultant's proposal should say which party resolves each discrepancy, rather than leaving finance to discover the missing owner at quarter end.
How to compare the proposals
Get separate scope for source connections, entity mapping, calculations, report templates, approvals and ongoing support. A quote for a dashboard is not comparable with a quote for completed investor documents. A proposal for AI extraction is not a proposal to own the fund's accounting policy.
Ask which licenses the fund must buy, which work remains with staff and what changes when another fund, investor template or source system is added. Require an operating owner for failed runs and source changes. Do not assume a case-study timeline or saving is your forecast.
For an organization-wide choice, read our AI consulting firms for mid-market companies guide. For this narrower decision, start with the report you must deliver and follow it back to the sources. The right consultant should be able to explain the whole route, including the part it will not own.
If one company reporting workflow is holding up the package, book a discovery call with the current report, source-system list and review steps. That is enough to decide whether a focused build is sensible or a fund-level reporting specialist is the better first call.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI consulting firms can help private equity client reporting?
Brownloop publishes a PE case covering LP-ready exports and AI-assisted reporting. SG Analytics describes AI extraction and fund-return analysis. KPMG and Blue Margin publish reporting-platform and data implementations, without establishing AI in those particular cases. Fixed Labs offers company reporting preparation and ongoing operation. Choose according to whether the missing work is source mapping, fund calculations, investor documents or company reporting.
Is a portfolio dashboard the same as an LP report?
A portfolio dashboard helps staff inspect company and fund performance. An LP report also needs the agreed calculations, investor-specific information, review, release and correction process. A dashboard implementation may supply the data without delivering those later steps. Ask the bidder to name the final output and demonstrate how a reviewed reporting period becomes the document or export your investors actually receive.
Where should AI stop in private equity investor reporting?
Use AI only within the steps your finance and investment teams have agreed to review. Extraction, draft commentary and exception detection can be scoped separately from fund-return calculations and report release. Keep investment judgment, valuation decisions and sensitive communication approval with the responsible people. Ask how disputed figures are held and how a reviewer can trace a reported figure to its source.
What should we ask an implementation firm to demonstrate?
Give each bidder the same sample reporting period, source submissions, approved workbook and investor template. Include a missing value, a duplicate submission and a corrected figure received after approval. Ask for the source behind each output, an explanation of calculation differences, the retained original report and an authorized revised version. This compares actual delivery responsibilities instead of presentation quality alone.
How should a private equity firm compare reporting implementation prices?
Compare the same deliverables and operating period. Separate source connections, entity mapping, calculation logic, report templates, review workflow, software licenses and ongoing support. Identify the work left with the fund or administrator. Ask what changes when you add another fund or investor template. A quote for dashboards cannot be compared directly with a quote for completed investor documents and continuing operation.
What does Fixed Labs provide for private equity reporting?
Fixed Labs builds and runs recurring workflows for established businesses doing $5M+ in revenue. Its published private equity offer includes preparing company board and lender packages with variance flags, company CFO signoff and operating-partner review. That offer is narrower than a demonstrated fund-accounting or LP-reporting replacement. Discuss one reporting workflow, its systems and review steps at fixedlabs.ai/contact before agreeing the scope.
